I've been woodworking and refurnishing furniture for awhile now and wanted to share with you my list of essential power tools that I use the most and think every DIYer needs. They might seem intimidating at first, but trust me, they are so much easier to use then it seems. Just make sure to read instructions very carefully and always follow it! That being said, never get to work with any power tools if you feel tired or had a glass of something 😉 My main advice would be not to purchase all at once, take it step by step and as your projects evolve, you will see what else you need or what you can live without.
MITER SAW
If you are planning to build furniture you'll need to make 90 and 45 degree cuts. A miter saw would do the job. It's probably the most costly investment into your new hobby, but you won't regret it. Funny story: most of my first power tools, including this miter saw were a gift from my husband for our anniversary. Talking about love here 😉
POWER DRILL
This is by far my most used power tool. I don't have to explain you what you can do with it, but the ways where you will use it are endless.
KREG JIG
There will be no words enough to describe how much I love this simple tool and how many times I used it. Kreg Jig system allows you to make pocket holes which are necessary if you want to make invisible joints. I used it pretty much at my every projects. Montessori Floor bed would not be possible without it. It's small but so useful! Definitely a must!
ORBITAL SANDER
Sanding is probably my least favorite part of the trade. But it has to be done and a lot! I started with hand sanding and let me tell you, if you are still doing it, STOP IT NOW! You absolutely need this sander, it will make your life easier. I've tried few brands but this one is by far my favorite.
CIRCULAR SAW
If you need to make rip cuts you can always ask your hardware store to do it. If they are unable to do so, you can do it at home using circular saw and this rip cut guide. Circular saw can be a nit tricky without the guide and it was a great challenge for me to cut it straight. This Rip Cut Guide was a life saver.
PAINT SPRAYER
If you agree with me that a little paint can change old furniture for the best, then don't you wait to long dealing with a brush and roller, get the paint sprayer! Your life will never be the same. I can't believe I waited for so long to get this one and I'm so happy that I did. It saves so much time while painting furniture.
NAIL GUN
I don't have this one yet, but oh man, I struggle. Every time I have to use nails and hammer it takes so much time! Can you use a hammer? Absolutely! But this tool can save you so much time. And as we know, time is money. This is definitely going to be my next purchase. Christmas is coming, khe khe, if someone needs an idea for my present 😀
DREMEL
This tool is also on my list of things that I need. I've been eying it for so long now that can't wait to get to my hands on it. It's so versatile and has so many uses - you just change the accessories and it can do anything - drilling, carving, sanding and so much more!
Did I miss any tools that you find a necessity? Any tools you'll be adding to your wish list? 😉
xoxo,
April
