A floor DIY house bed is a great transition from a crib to a big kid's bed. It is also incredibly beautiful. Plenty of those beds are on the market, but as much as they are lovely, they also break the bank. Benefits of Montessori Beds
So, what is the point of the Montessori bed?
Montessori beds, particularly floor house beds, offer several compelling benefits that align with the Montessori educational philosophy.
Firstly, these beds empower children by promoting independence. Since the beds are low to the ground, kids can easily get in and out by themselves, fostering autonomy from a young age.
Secondly, the open and accessible design encourages creativity and imaginative play. Children can transform their beds into cozy reading nooks, forts, or imaginative play zones, enhancing their cognitive and social development.
Additionally, Montessori floor house beds contribute to a safer sleeping environment. Without the need for high railings, there's less risk of falls, providing peace of mind for parents.
Finally, these beds often incorporate natural materials and simple designs, which can help create a calm and aesthetically pleasing environment conducive to rest and relaxation. By choosing a Montessori bed, you're investing in both your child's growth and the harmonious design of their bedroom.
Why Choose DIY Projects
Opting for DIY projects, like creating Montessori floor house beds, can be both rewarding and practical.
- DIY allows for customization. You can tailor the bed to perfectly match your child's preferences and the existing décor of their room, creating a unique piece of DIY kids furniture. This level of personalization often cannot be achieved with store-bought options.
- DIY projects can be cost-effective. By using free bed plans and sourcing your own materials, you can significantly reduce costs compared to purchasing pre-made options.
- Building something with your hands gives a profound sense of accomplishment and confidence. It can also serve as an excellent teaching moment for kids, demonstrating the value of creativity and persistence.
- DIY projects foster a deeper connection to the items in your home. They carry personal stories, making them more meaningful and cherished by the whole family.

Decorating floor house bed
Garlands
It's so much fun to decorate this bed! Let me show you some of my favorites.
Minimalist style speaks to me, so I used white lace that falls through the whole bed. I found this lace on AliExpress, and even though I didn't like it very much at first, it grew on me, and now I love it!
I added handmade felt clouds on a string since the room theme is clouds.
It was a straightforward project that could be done in an hour while watching TV. Just cut felt like a cloud, sew it, leave a little hole, and stuff it with toy stuffing.
If you'd prefer to buy, there are plenty of options on Etsy.

West Elm has a very affordable white canopy in a beautiful natural color. It would be perfect for a twin-size floor house bed.
My absolute favorite one from Numero 74! It's made from 100% linen and looks divine! See it here how I used it in my new renovated bedroom after kids transitioned from Montessori bed to a big girl's bed.
