A few years ago I updated my IKEA Alex drawer and made it more custom and definitely better looking by simply switching the front boards of the drawers. And today I'd like to share with you simple but gorgeous IKEA Alex drawer hacks that you can do!

I hope this post will inspire you to update your simple Alex drawer.

If you don't remember what IKEA Alex drawer looks like, here is a reminder 😁

1. IKEA Alex drawer front replacement.

This project probably took me a couple of hours but the result was exceeding my expectations! To be honest, as of my taste now I'd probably switch the handles for more modern ones but hey, it still looks stinking cute!

You can find a tutorial on how to switch original drawers fronts for natural wood here.

2. Adding cane webbing

The Hardins did something absolutely amazing with the standard Alex drawer. They added cane webbing to the front of the drawers and these amazing pulls. I love how boho and modern the IKEA Alex drawer looks like.

3. Adding a pattern

With this smart IKEA hack, you wouldn't even have to replace the drawer fronts. Simply paint a design on it to archive the upscale look.

4. Add decoupage

To cover this ALEX dresser in decoupage paper sounds like a wonderful idea! When it involves the map as Helene Langborg did, it's extra points. But use your imagination on what design to add.

5. Chalk paint the drawers

Kristine is using a different kind of drawer, but you could still apply it to the ALEX drawer and paint it with chalk paint. I think it looks so vintage and fabulous.

Just get creative and add chalk paint to the front drawers and nice pulls.

6. Make it look upscale by adding trim

I love how Liz added a trim to the drawers and these gorgeous golden pulls. You can read her tutorial on the blog. Needless to say, you can paint it in any colors you'd like but I love the black look a lot.

7. Add decals

Decals for Alex drawer are very popular and make such a huge difference. In a few minutes, your Alex drawer can go from a generic one to a customized drawer. And all thanks to decals. There are so many options on Etsy that are worth looking at. Here are a few of my favorite:

8. Add faux brass

Ashley from Sugar and Cloth did something so small but impactful. They made faux brass drawers and it looks stunning!

It's so easy to make, read the full tutorial on their website.

9. Add rustic caning

If the previous caning project was light and airy, this one is very rustic and apothecary looks alike. I love the combination of the warm wood tones and stained caning.

And special cheers for the wall color on the back!

10. Faux apothecary drawers

Who doesn't love a nice apothecary drawer's chest? They are so expensive though, so the nice alternative is to make faux apothecary drawers. And ALEX drawer is perfect for the job. I think this is one of my most favorites IKEA Alex drawer hacks.

11. Ombré look

These Etsy decals look amazing but if anything, you could also paint the front of the drawers in matching colors to achieve the ombré look.

12. Bring them together

Mr.Kate went outside the box and combined two tall ALEX drawers together, creating a tall narrow drawers chest. And the color of this one is gorgeous - great to brighten up any room!

What is your favorite IKEA Alex drawer hack?

Let me know in the comments!

April
