This reveal has been long overdue since I finished the room a few months ago, but life has been so busy lately, and I didn't have time to update you.

I've been dealing with many personal things, and being a single mom while juggling a business and a DIY house renovation is challenging.

Today I posted a video of how this beautiful speakeasy library came to life. You can watch it here.

Progress of the library and what was hard about it

So this is how it looks now:

Sources

  • Chandelier $359
  • Leather chairs $3220
  • Round table (thrifted) $50
  • Glass bubble lamp (got from the auction) $20
  • Rug $200
  • Wall paint $180
  • Liquid masking $30
  • Books (personal, thrifted over last ten years. I read probably 70% of them, and can't wait to read the rest)
  • Book Nook $50
  • Labor - Free

Total: $3939

The chairs were the most expensive part of this makeover, and rightfully so - they look stunning! I got them at the Black Friday sale with 30% off. It was my Christmas present, and now I enjoy them almost every morning after I drop off the kids and read a book and have my green tea in them. It's pure bliss!

The chandelier is a budget version of this gorgeous one.

And as a rule of thumb, I usually get one expensive item for the room and work around more minor things by thrifting it or DIYing.

I'm talking now like an expert, but this is the first room I finished in this house. So this is my way of approaching makeovers on the budget.

The book nook was such a fun project to do with my friend. It comes as a DIY kit, and you must assemble it yourself. It took us about 7 hours to finish it. You can watch how we did it in this reel on @ifonlyapril.

I will never stop raving about the Graco spray painter and masking liquid that made this paint job more manageable. If you haven't tried it yet, you should try it. I wrote tips on using a paint sprayer; it's so much faster than a roller.

I'm so happy with how this room turned out. It's everything I wanted and so much more.

Now I'm onto finishing the kids' bedrooms which are 90% done. Hopefully, it won't be too long😅

Xoxo,

April
