As we enter 2024, I'd like to set intentions for the rooms I want to finish. I've learned from last year that sometimes, I set unrealistic expectations for myself. Between a part-time job at the gallery and raising kids by myself full-time, I have very limited time to do the projects now.
You can read here about my progress from 2023.
So, what are the realistic expectations for this year? Let's dive in.
Play office
I intend to finally clear out the kids' playroom (used as a dumping ground for all kids' toys) and make it an appropriate play office. I want to build a long desk with cubbies under it - it will be another fun IKEA hack, build bookshelves on an entire wall, and paint a fun mural. This room will be done on the budget, so I'm trying to sell kids' toys they are no longer using and furniture that doesn't fit - I already sold this excellent IKEA toy storage - an IKEA hack I did a few years ago.
Dining room
This will be the biggest and probably most impactful project of the year. I already set on wallpaper and color; the only thing left to do is to add it. But first, I'd need to remove the current wallpaper, which was traditionally pasted to the wall. I'm unsure how it will go, but I bet it won't be fun. Also, I still haven't decided if I want to paint a ceiling there. I will go with the flow!
Entryway
In 2023, I started working on the entryway and hired a professional to paint the hallway, stairs, and hallways upstairs. The best decision I've ever made! I want to add a faux shiplap on one of the walls, a stair runner, and a cover for a radiator.
Powder room
This powder room is outdated, but I have some fun plans for it - dark and moody with a funny wallpaper. It looks amazing in my head! But I'd have to take down tiles covering all the walls, which might be challenging. Stay tuned!
Mudroom
Well, if you can call it that. It's more of a tiny room that connects to the kitchen and where everyone dumps their jackets. I plan to build cubbies, change the ceiling, and add tiles and shoe storage. And paint it a dark plum color! Boom! You need to trust me on that - it will look gorgeous!
That's probably it! Five big projects for me this year are the most I could handle, and it's ok. I'l be proud of myself if I finish them all till next January! I can't wait to see what 2024 will bring!
