Recently I've been trying to organize our kitchen in our new house. We have a lot of spices, and my soul was craving to have them in order. So I decided to make a simple spices organizer in a drawer. The best part about it - is it cost me less than $5.

Let's see how I did it so you can do it in your home too!

  • DIY wooden produce storage rack
  • Foldable cookbook stand (great gift and also an IKEA hack)
  • Utensils drawer dividers

AFTER:

I used to have another organizer, and it worked great, but for this kitchen, it makes more sense to keep spices in the drawers instead of cabinets. You can find it here.

Spices organizer I previously had.

Materials

  • ½" plywood
  • Wood glue
  • Spices jars

Instructions

Step 1 - measure the drawers

Measure the width of your drawer.

Since all the drawers are different, my measurement probably won't matter. But I'll just throw it out there - my drawer is 7", which made it perfect to fit four spice jars in a row.

Spice jars, I believe, are standard and come in a 4" height.

These are mine, but there are many different ones on Amazon.

Step 2 - cut plywood

After I measured the width of the drawers and jars, I cut plywood into rectangular 7x4 ½". I added ½" to the height of the jars.

Using my table saw, I also cut 7x1 ½" strips for the elevation.

1 ½" strip with ½" of plywood creates a nice display of the spice jars.

Step 3 - glue strips to the front boards

This step could be done in different ways. I decided to use wood glue to attach both boards. It's not a construction structure, and there is no need to add screws or brad nails.

I clamped them together and waited for them to dry.

And that's it! Now for the fun part - to organize all your spices in jars and put cute labels on them.

The set I bought came with cute labels that I was so happy to put on the jars. It took some time to put them together, but the end result was worth it!

I absolutely love how it turned out!

Now my spices are organized, and it makes me very happy! Between this and DIY utensils drawer dividers, I'm not sure which one is my favorite.

What's your favorite kitchen organization hack?

I think I'll go and cook something now ;D

April
