Christmas is almost here and every year people spend a lot of money on Christmas decor. What about making this year different and actually making your own Christmas decorations? Here is a collection of DIY affordable Christmas decoration ideas for your home.
It's so much fun making Christmas decor yourself that I guarantee you, you'd cherish them for years to come and will never turn to bought once ever again. Yes, making your own Christmas decor definitely will take more time than shopping at the store. But ask yourself, what will you love more in the years to come?
Most of the projects are quite simple and easy to make, so you could involve your kids in the process and then it definitely would have some special value.
1. DIY Christmas village stocking holder
I made this set in 2021 and I think it looks amazing! I loved it so much that couldn't decide which one I like better - the one in color or the one in wooden tones. So I made two of them and gave one to a friend. My kids were so happy to see this on our mantel. It took me a few hours in the evening to paint the colored one, but the result was so worth it.

2. Christmas wall tree from sticks
This DIY Christmas wall tree was a project where my two passions collided - to make something beautiful and to make it almost for free. I love working with natural materials. It's such a great way to contribute to the planet and consumes less plastic. Since it takes so little time to make a tree like this, you can throw it away at the end of the season and make a new one next year.

3. DIY natural Christmas wreath
As I mentioned before, I love the concept of creating decor with natural materials. It's ecologically friendly and has a great impact on the planet. This wreath turned out so beautiful. And everything you see was gathered on the walk in the woods. So the mind is happy and you are too!

6. Simple DIY stockings holders
DIY Christmas decorations don't have to be complicated. This project is so simple to make but would definitely elevate your Christmas. Sometimes I feel with all Christmas decor people get overwhelmed to be in the house, so simplicity is a key to surviving the season lol That's why I feel these DIY stocking holders in the shape of houses are so perfect for any home. And you can also add these handmade stockings from felt there. I have a step-by-step tutorial for them. Aren't they lovely?
7. DIY advent village
While other projects probably should be done by you, this DIY advent village from cardboard could be perfect to make with the kids. It took me a couple of evenings to make but the kids were so happy! You can decorate it as you like, I wanted it to look like a candy village. Adding clay rooftops made them even more charming in my opinion.

Here you'll find tutorials on how to make simple Christmas wooden trees, a small bead garland with beads, Christmas trees from yarn and macrame rope, and a taper candle centerpiece. I'm not sure if Scandinavians would approve but this is my take on Scandinavian decor haha

9. Advent calendar with a macrame moon
This is my most favorite advent calendar. Probably since it took me some time to learn how to make the macrame moon for it. You could also use it as decor and put clay white stars instead of the boxes. I loved this moon in the hoop so much that I reused it for a fall wreath this year. I think it's one of my favorite DIY Christmas decorations.
